5 best hotels in Burford, The Cotswolds

The Angel at Burford

Burford is understandably one of the most popular towns in the Cotswolds, and it’s easy to see why with its impossibly pretty scenery and unbeatable charm.

Aside from its aesthetic appeal, Burford is slightly larger in size than the smaller villages of the Cotswolds, and therefore offers more amenities.

This means that there are a great range of hotels in Burford, catering for different tastes and preferences.

In this guide, I share my pick of the best hotels in Burford, including plenty of cosy country inns to get that quintessential Cotswolds experience.

1. The Highway Inn

Address: 117 High Street, Burford OX18 4RG

Best for: A romantic stay

The Highway Inn

Found right on the High Street, the Highway Inn is a characterful property that successfully balances its original charm with modern luxurious touches.

This boutique hotel features unique decorated bedrooms, each with its own distinct character.

I love the cosy ambiance here, and I think it makes the perfect romantic stay.

I’d recommend enjoying a full English breakfast in the morning in the popular restaurant, which serves locally sourced ingredients and offers a variety of tasty dishes.

For me, The Highway Inn’s prime location makes it an ideal base for exploring the town..

2. The Lamb Inn

Address: Sheep St, Burford OX18 4LR

Best for: Award-winning food

For luxury Burford accommodation, The Lamb Inn should be top of your considerations and is a popular Burford hotel. The Lamb Inn is, so wonderfully, found on Sheep Street!

It’s exactly everything that you expect from stylish yet Old English accommodation. A stay here warms the heart with award-winning food, outstanding service and thoughtful touches.

Enjoying a pre-dinner drink in the courtyard and walled garden is a must as far as I’m concerned!

The Lamb Inn’s restaurant is renowned for its fine dining. It’s a personal favourite of mine and is one of the best restaurants in Burford

3. Burford House

Address: 99 High Street, Burford OX18 4QA

Best for: Prime location

Burford House Hotel

Another Burford boutique hotel is the charmingly tiny Burford House which has just six ensuite rooms.

It may be small but each room is simply beautiful, decorated with a mix of antique and modern furnishings, creating a homely yet sophisticated atmosphere.

I know you’ll be afforded a warm welcome here, with the attentive staff making every effort to ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable.

The breakfast at Burford House is not to be missed, offering a variety of homemade breads, pastries, and a selection of cooked-to-order options.

Plus, its central location on the High Street means you are just steps away from Burford’s attractions, shops and cafés.

4. The Bay Tree Hotel

Address: 12 Sheep St, Burford OX18 4LW

Best for:  A dog-friendly hotel

21 individually designed rooms make up the higgledy-piggledy Bay Tree Hotel on Sheep Street.

The hotel’s historical architecture, with exposed beams and stone walls, adds to its classic Cotswolds charm.

Dogs are welcome too, making it a great option for pet owners looking to enjoy a getaway with their furry friends.

A fair weather stay should definitely include a game of croquet on the lawn, and the beautifully landscaped gardens are perfect for a leisurely stroll.

The Bay Tree’s restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with a menu that emphasises fresh, local ingredients. Plus, a traditional afternoon tea in the garden is a real treat!

5. The Angel at Burford

Address: 14 Witney St, Burford OX18 4SN

Best for: Families

The Angel at Burford

A 16th century coaching inn, I’d recommend The Angel for a family stay in Burford. Its spacious rooms and welcoming atmosphere make it ideal for guests of all ages.

The inn has an excellent restaurant that services hearty, traditional British fare with a modern twist.

It’s also a great place to indulge in a delicious brunch in the Cotswolds, with an extensive menu featuring everything from classic eggs Benedict to more adventurous dishes.
