Map of the best towns on the French Riviera

Use my map to see where all the best French Riviera towns are located:

1. Nice

Nice, the capital of the French Riviera, holds a special place in my heart. Its pebbled beaches and crystal-clear waters are a feast for the eyes.

Don’t forget about the charming Old Town, or Vieux Nice. It’s a collection of narrow streets perfect for aimless wandering in the afternoon sun.

The city’s vibrant art scene is also worth mentioning. The Musée Matisse, for example, adds a cultural depth that’ll keep you coming back.

And for a breathtaking view, I recommend climbing up to Castle Hill. Trust me, it’s worth every step!

2. Antibes

Antibes strikes a perfect balance between old-world charm and modern luxury. You’re sure to be captivated by its 16th-century ramparts and the star-shaped Fort Carré.

The old town’s cobbled streets are a joy to explore as well. Pass by the Picasso Museum too, housed in the Château Grimaldi. It’s a must-visit for art lovers!

But what truly sets Antibes apart is its bustling yacht harbour, Port Vauban – there’s not better place to go yacht spotting!

3. Saint Paul de Vence

Saint Paul de Vence

Perched atop a hill, Saint Paul de Vence is like stepping into a living postcard. This mediaeval village has been a haven for artists for decades – and it’s easy to see why!

Its narrow, winding streets are lined with art galleries, boutiques, and cafes that ooze charm. I never tire of admiring the centuries-old stone facades adorned with cascading flowers.

For me, however, the real magic happens at sunset. The village glows golden and the views over the countryside are simply breathtaking.

4. Èze

Hilltop Village of Eze

Èze is a village that never fails to take my breath away. Its mediaeval charm is intoxicating, with narrow cobblestone streets making their way up to the exotic garden at the summit.

The panoramic views of the Mediterranean from here are simply spectacular.

Make time to visit the Fragonard perfumery where the art of fragrance-making comes alive.

And as twilight falls, the village takes on a magical quality that’s truly unforgettable. So have your camera ready!

5. Villefranche-sur-Mer

Villefranche-sur-Mer

Villefranche-sur-Mer is a hidden gem that I stumbled upon years ago and have loved ever since.

The fishing village and its steep, narrow streets are a delight to explore. You’ll find yourself lingering in Place Amélie Pollonais just to soak up the laid-back atmosphere.

The beach here is one of my favourites on the Riviera! It’s a long stretch of sand that’s less crowded than its glamorous neighbours.

Please don’t miss the stunning Chapelle Saint-Pierre either.

6. Saint Jean Cap Ferrat

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is the epitome of Riviera luxury. Dotted with opulent villas, this peninsula offers some of the most beautiful coastal walks you’ll ever experience.

The Promenade Maurice Rouvier, connecting Saint-Jean to Beaulieu-sur-Mer, is a favourite of mine for its stunning sea views.

There’s also The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild with its exquisite gardens.

Favour a more laid-back experience? I recommend relaxing on the small but charming Paloma Beach. You might spot a celebrity or two!

7. Grasse

Known as the perfume capital of the world, Grasse is a treat for the senses. I’m always struck by how the scent of flowers permeates the air as you wander through its mediaeval streets.

The town’s perfuming houses, like Fragonard and Molinard, offer fascinating tours where you’ll learn the secrets of fragrance creation.

8. Menton

Menton France

Menton, the Pearl of France, is the last stop before Italy and will make you fall in love with it hard. Its microclimate especially makes it the warmest spot on the French Riviera.

While strolling down Menton’s streets, you’ll feel like you’re in a real-life painting.

The exotic Jardin Val Rahmeh is a personal favourite, though. It’s a tranquil oasis where you can escape the hustle and bustle.

9. Saint Tropez

Saint Tropez French Riviera

Saint-Tropez may be all about glitz and glamour, but I’ve found there’s so much more to this former fishing village.

Yes, the yacht-filled harbour and celebrity spotting are part of its appeal, but I’m equally in love with its quieter side.

You’ll be happy exploring the cobblestone lanes of La Ponche (the old fisherman’s quarter) and the excellent Musée de l’Annonciade.

And the beaches? Simply gorgeous, especially the famous Pampelonne.

10. Monaco

Monte Carlo Monaco

Though not technically a part of France, I couldn’t leave Monaco off this list.

I’m always awestruck by the grandeur of the Prince’s Palace and the famous Monte Carlo Casino.

For a taste of Formula 1 glamour, you should walk the street circuit and imagine the roar of engines.

You’ll also find lovely spots like the Japanese Gardens that offer tranquil respite.

Book a sightseeing boat cruise of the Monaco coast.

The French Riviera is a goldmine of experiences, from glamorous beaches to hilltop villages. Each town has its unique charm, and I hope this guide inspires you to explore them all. Bon voyage!
