Nestled amidst the picturesque landscape of the Lake District, Brimstone Hotel offers a luxurious retreat for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.
I enjoyed the most wonderful stay here and was blown away by the hospitality and gorgeous facilities.
Boasting an impressive selection of bespoke rooms and suites, I’m not surprised that the hotel has earned a reputation for providing an unparalleled guest experience.
Brimstone is a collection of luxury chalet-style suites within the Langdale Estate. It’s not a traditional hotel where you have a hotel lobby – instead you get ‘hosts’ who are on hand to help you with whatever you may need.
I was a big fan of the unique blend of contemporary design and outstanding natural surroundings, which ensure that you enjoy a comfortable stay while having the opportunity to reconnect with nature.
Luxurious rooms
Brimstone Hotel offers a variety of luxurious rooms. I stayed in the Mezzanine Loft Suite – a spacious room set over two floors.
The room is designed in a way that feels synonymous with the surrounding landscape. Natural tones inside blend seamlessly with the nature right outside the window.
I loved the homely lounge area with a big comfy sofa and calming views outside. I can imagine that the cosy log fire would be just perfect in the colder months.
As well as the ensuite bathroom upstairs, there is also a hidden freestanding bathtub downstairs. Complete with natural Pure Lakes toiletries for a luxurious touch.
Come rain or shine, I found the balcony to be a wonderful place to sit with a book and soak up the peace and quiet of the surroundings.
The positioning of the room made it feel as though you were amongst the trees, in the most luxurious treehouse. Utter bliss!
Customer service
Throughout your stay, you can avail yourself of Brimstone Hotel’s exceptional customer service.
The attentive and knowledgeable hosts are on hand at any time to offer personalised recommendations so you can make the most of your stay.
I was particularly delighted when one of the staff knocked on my door at 6pm to offer me a complimentary cocktail (I wish I had this service at home!).
They’ll assist you in crafting the perfect itinerary for your visit to the Lake District or provide local tips for making the most of the area.
Need wet weather gear for your hike? Just ask the staff and they’ll sort it for you. It’s this level of customer service that really elevates the Brimstone Hotel experience.
It’s a distinguished style of hospitality that leaves every single guest feeling special and thoroughly looked after.
Food & drink
Guests have access to a number of different dining options while staying at Brimstone. Within the hotel itself, there are two options for guests: the ‘Reading Room’ and in-room dining services.
The former is a lounge area where you can help yourself to complimentary food and drink.
From afternoon tea with scones and sweet treats through to cheese boards and wine later on. It’s a unique and wonderful touch that I haven’t found at many hotels.
For a restaurant experience on the Langdale Estate, head over to Stove Restaurant & Bar. The menu offers a combination of much-loved classics and tempting contemporary dishes.
This is also where breakfast is served, unless you opt for it in your room.
Just a short walk up the road is Wainwright’s Inn, where you’ll find classic pub food and local ales. I inhaled a hearty fish and chips for lunch here after a long hike and it was exactly what I needed!
Wellness and relaxation
One of the highlights of Brimstone Hotel is its indulgent spa, which Brimstone guests get complimentary access to.
As with the rooms at Brimstone, the spa feels connected to the nature that surrounds it. The result is a sanctuary of total tranquillity and calm.
Unwind with one of many thermal experiences and relaxation areas:
- Finnish Sauna
- Foot Spa & Ice Fountain
- Himalayan Salt Steam Room
- Lava Sauna
- Mineral Steam Bath
- Experience Shower
- Herbal Sauna
- Laconium
- Relaxation Pool
Treat yourself to one of the bespoke treatments for more relaxation and rejuvenation. I had a tailored massage here and it was incredible.
There is also a modern fitness centre that caters to the needs of active guests – although I’m more of a laze by the pool girl myself!
For when you get peckish, the Brimstone Spa Deli serves sharing platters and nibbles. You’ve got to keep fuelled while being pampered of course!
Location and surrounding area
The hotel is surrounded by verdant hills, lush forests, and tranquil lakes. It’s an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts and those seeking respite from urban life.
Within a short distance, you can access various hotspots in the Lake District, including quaint villages, historic sites, and epic views.
Go for a wander in the beautiful Langdale Valley, which is right on your doorstep at Brimstone.
See the breathtaking views at Loughrigg Fell, Loughrigg Tarn or Blea Tarn. Or go underground and explore the spectacular Cathedral Caves.
Take to the water with some wild swimming if you’re feeling adventurous – or stay dry with a boat cruise on Lake Windermere.
For a more relaxing afternoon, I recommend wandering the shops and experiencing the cafes of picturesque Grasmere, just a few miles away from Brimstone.
The area is popular for its hiking and cycling trails, offering scenic walks and challenging climbs for outdoor adventurers.
If your legs fancy a break from all the hiking and cycling, hire some e-bikes and take on those hilly roads with ease!
