Over my visits to the captivating Greek island of Rhodes, one place that I find myself returning to, time and again, is the serene St Paul’s Bay.
Located on the southeastern coast, this bay has become my haven of idyllic beauty, mesmerising azure waters, and rich history.
The beach offers an invitingly warm and relaxing environment for you to unwind, soak up the sun, and indulge in a refreshing swim.
As you make your way to St Paul’s Bay, I love that you’re greeted with the magnificent sight of lush pine forests and rugged cliffs that frame its crystal-clear waters.
If you’re planning your Rhodes itinerary, I strongly recommend carving out time to experience the magic of St Paul’s Bay.
In my guide to St Paul’s Bay, I share my top tips for visiting, things to do in the area and my personal recommendations for where to stay nearby.
How to get to St Paul’s Bay
To get to St Paul’s Bay in Rhodes, you have several options depending on your starting point and your preferred mode of transportation.
If you are flying into Rhodes International Airport (RHO), you can take a taxi or rent a car for the 40-minute (approximately 36 kilometres) drive to St Paul’s Bay.
Alternatively, there are public buses running between the airport and Lindos village, only a short walk away from St Paul’s Bay.
It takes around 50 minutes to drive from Rhodes Town to St Paul’s Bay.
St. Paul’s Bay has a public parking area located nearby. Follow the signs for “St. Paul’s Bay” or “Agios Pavlos Beach,” and you should find parking spaces available.
It’s within walking distance of the bay, so you can easily access the beach and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
Alternatively, Lindos has a dedicated public parking area located just outside the town. Follow the signs for “Parking” when approaching Lindos, and you’ll find a parking lot where you can leave your vehicle.
From there, you can take a short walk or a shuttle (during peak seasons) to reach the town centre, where you can then walk down to St Paul’s Bay.
Note that the walk to St Paul’s Bay is quite steep, which is worth bearing in mind during the intense heat, so I’d suggest hopping on a shuttle if you can.
You can also arrive by boat if you’re visiting as part of an organised tour. Some of the best tours I’d recommend are as follows:
- Lindos: Glass-Bottom Boat Cruise with Swim Stops
- From Rhodes: Yacht Cruise to Lindos with Lunch and Drinks
- Lindos: Sea Kayaking & Acropolis of Lindos Tour with Lunch
History of St Paul’s Bay
In terms of historical significance, St Paul’s Bay has an exceptional story to tell. Legend has it that the Apostle Paul sought refuge here in 51 AD during his journey to preach Christianity.
As a result, a small chapel dedicated to St Paul can be found nearby, adding spiritual depth to your visit and providing a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich past.
Services at St Paul’s Bay
At St Paul’s Bay, you have access to a variety of amenities to cater for your needs during your visit.
Beach amenities: You can make the most of your beach experience with sun loungers and umbrellas available for rent.
Cafes and restaurants: Satisfy your hunger and quench your thirst at the selection of bars and restaurants around the bay.
Watersports: Adventure seekers, I’d definitely recommend snorkelling and diving at the bay, as the clear water is just perfect for it.
Local companies offer equipment rental and guided tours to explore the crystal-clear waters.
Things to do in and around St Paul’s Bay
1. See the St Paul’s Chapel
Stroll along the shore and visit the picturesque St Paul’s Chapel, a small whitewashed church perched on a hillside overlooking the bay.
The chapel is dedicated to Saint Paul and I’ve seen a number of weddings and christening ceremonies held here.
